Ontario is God’s Country
Current mood: rejuvenated
Well I am back from a great awesome time in Canada.
Barb and I rolled out of Jersey abotu 5:30 pm on Friday and off to Canada we went. I love road trips because I can catch up on work stuff, music stuff that Barb and I need to discuss, and also I get a chance to listen to CD's that have been given to me by artists, so I have time to chill, reflect on the week and plan ahead.
So we get to the border by 1,000 Islands I wish it wasnt so late because Barb says it is breathtaking to see it..so we are so excited yeah we only have 8 miles to go!! And we are ahead of schedule..not quite all of a sudden Gracie(our GPS, our friends Cathy and Ellen named her that for our road trip to Boston) anyways Gracie says we have like 58 more miles?? What that aint right Barb and I say, but sure enough we crossed referenced our directiosn from mapquest and yep, we gotta keep on trucking....now as you go further and further up to our destination it got darker and darker and more rural..we were a little scared to say the least as we are both Jersey gals in a country we are not familiar with...so on we drive Gracie telling us to trun right then left then, dirt roads, OH MY!!!!
We are at our desitination it is 1:30am, we were an hour behind the time we thought we would be there, but no worries, there is a HUGE four wheeled Jeep thingy shining its birght bright lights on us, I guess these were our hosts. We HOPE these are our hosts as we both were blinded ny the lights.(hmm a song perhaps, oh I digress)
So out pops two lovley Canadian women, SOOO EXCITED to see us, they give us big hugs!! I was like wow, people sure are freindly in these parts...sooo they tell us to follow them down the road a bit to our hosts house, okay we say as we are so excited to finally be at our destination the NJ fear was wearing off a bit, so we follow them to this bueatiful house on a lake, the full moon was shining on the water it was right out of a travel book, we were so tired we got settled said our goodnights and off to slumber land we go...well there were like noises I havent heard since my childhood on teh farm, frogs, dogs, aother animals..no worries put the ear plugs in and off to slumber land we went.
Day 2: FESTIVAL DAY!!!
We wake up check in at the gate and get all our paperwork and stuff, the air is wonderful clear crisp and I am excited to play today I feel refreshed and ready to rock. Barb and I hea dinto a little town called Tweed Ontario where we found of course A BEER STORE!!! Gotta have the refreshements! The drinking age in Canada is 19 so I was so good to GO!! (SMILE) We go to a local coffee shop, have a sandwhich and the most awesome organic coffee I have ever tasted..chatted with the local the population of Tweed I think is 16,000 can you imagine???? EVERYONE knows EVERYONE!!! LOVED IT! I wanted to move there that instant, but you know we have to press on.
So we get back to the site and cars and cars everywhere, the festival sold out!!!! Alot of very talented women performed some I have ran across before in my fastival travels so a lot of catching up and swapping cd's and jsut great time. Now I have played alot of festivals before but I have to tell you this one was run so well so organized, it was run by you guessed it...Musicians, EVERYTHING was taken care of..we had food water and a soundwoman that rocks!!!
I went on stage a little early as some performers didnt show up, cool with me, I drank in the energy of the place I think I was in a spiritual vortex as I felt so at home so at ease and so electrified. I played and I sang and I made a connection with the audience instantly, we had a ball together, I was Jersey to them, they were my beloved Canooks! We laughed together as I was tryign to figure out States, Provinces and Territoires between songs..LOL I am a sort of a big fish in a little pond in NJ, now I was a little fish in a big pond, I didnt know if I would be received well at all, as noone was familiar with my music, it is good to test the waters and get out of your comfort zone as an artist, and I did, and WOW!!!
They LOVED my music and me, after my set I sold a whole bunch of CD's and signed a whole bunch and just got to really bond with the festival goers and we shared laughs beers and Lick's Burgers!!!
Sonia and Disappear Fear headlined the Festival and closd the night, please please please buy her new CD, TANGo it is brilliant, it is in hebrew, arabic, and Spanish as wella s english and is up for a grammy nod for world music..Sonia and her band are amaizing wonderful people and it was good to see her again, as we both run into each other at different festivals throughout our careers. She i s a good soul!!!
Now for some thankyous!! THANKS TO ROBIN AND LINDSEY!! See you in Sept at The Starland!!! Anne tha sound lady you rock! Dorothy for your wonderful hospitality!
